Robin’s journey in Karate began at a young age, ignited by a deep fascination with martial arts. He quickly realized that Karate was more than just a physical discipline; it was a path to self-discovery and personal growth. Under the mentorship of experienced JKA instructors, he developed a profound understanding of Karate's core principles, including respect, discipline, and perseverance.
Robin began his Karate journey in 1974, initially training in Kyokushinkai and later moving to the KUGB in England. He had the privilege of training many times under the formidable Enoeda Sensei. Notably, his favorite instructor was a gentleman named Dave Hazard, whose inspiration drove Robin to continue his lifelong journey in Karate. After relocating to Australia, Robin became a ronin, but eventually found his home in JKA Australia, where he continues to learn from exceptional individuals within the organization.
As a JKA certified instructor, Robin is committed to passing on the traditions and teachings of Karate to the next generation. He firmly believes that Karate is not just a martial art but a way of life, promoting physical fitness, mental resilience, and spiritual well-being. Profile
Prior to Karate David had trained in Boxing and Wrestling during high school. After a break in his early 20’s he was looking to go back to Boxing however he was fascinated by the power generated when shown a demonstration of kata Saifa by a friend at the time. He decided to attend a class and hasn't looked back since.
After attaining 7th kyu (orange belt) David started researching about techniques and application of what was being taught. He came across videos of the KUGB and Naka Tatsuya Sensei from the Japan Karate Association and started coming to class early to practice the Heian katas of JKA. This is where he caught the eye of Robin who had been helping in that class.
Robin recognised the desire and commitment in David and would also show up to class early to teach him and at times stayed back to share stories of his time in the KUGB.
After attaining 3rd kyu (brown belt) in 2018 David was welcomed by Nishimura Shihan and was bridged into the JKAA as a 1st kyu in 2019 after 6 months of intense extra private training with Robin. Shortly after COVID-19 had closed the Dojo so Robin opened his own Dojo taking David on as his first student in JKA Castle Hill, helping him to attain both Shodan (1st Dan) through Nishimura Shihan in 2021 and Nidan (2nd Dan) through Izumiya Shihan/Ueda Sensei in 2024.
Davids's goal is to build up students in the way of Budo so they may take what they have learned into the world and excel in anything they put their mind to.
David also possesses a first-aid certificate and is approved for working with children.
